The Media Research Center is best known for being right-wing hate-watchers of “The View,” so it was overly excited that Vice President J.D. Vance chose to appear on the show. Tim Graham previewed it in a June 11 post:
Here’s some popcorn viewing for Republicans. ABC’s The View announced on Thursday that Vice President J.D. Vance will appear on the show on Tuesday to discuss current events as well as his new book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.
Vance will be the third sitting vice president to appear, after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. All six co-hosts are expected to participate — Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro.
Whoopi Goldberg announced the forthcoming event and actually said Vance’s name out loud — unlike the way she avoids saying Trump’s name.
[…]Some conservatives think this isn’t worth Vance’s time, as the hosts will surely ambush him and press him to denounce President Trump on something, anything. Liberals suggest this happened because FCC Chairman Brendan Carr is probing whether the show violates equal-time requirements for candidates — but Vance isn’t a candidate this year.
We can easily predict the View crew will push Vance about his wife Usha’s Hindu faith, and his statement that he hopes for her to become Christian, which they found rude when discussing the Vances back in March. It seemed “very far apart to me,” said Sunny Hostin.
The MRC’s chief “View” hate-watcher, Nicholas Fondacaro, weighed in the following day:
Vice President J.D. Vance was slotted to be a special guest on ABC’s The View next Tuesday, but in an appearance on their Behind the Table podcast on Thursday, co-host Ana Navarro was ungrateful that he was taking time out of his schedule to speak with them. She huffed about him there to only sell his book and didn’t what him to be able to create a viral “moment” when he was there.
After a quick introduction to the show, host and The View’s executive producer, Brian Teta noted that Vance was “the third sitting vice president that we’ve had on The View. The first Republican.”
[…]Echoing comments made by fellow View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin on the podcast in November 2025, Navarro was fearful that Vance was going to try to create a viral “moment” with his appearance:
[…]Just as with Farah Griffin, what they were actually concerned about was a guest that was going to embarrass them by calling them out on their nonsense, hypocrisy, lies, and conspiracy theories. You know, face actual push back and counter points.
Meanwhile, nobody has called out Fondacaro on his history of lies. He pushed his argument further in a June 15 post:
With his scheduled appearance on ABC’s The View on Tuesday, Vice President J.D. Vance will be only the third conservative guest allowed to express their opinions on the show in 2026. The announcement brought excitement to many as they anticipated a thrashing of the Cackling Coven, but others still didn’t understand it, thought he was giving them undue attention, and would unnecessarily boost the show. But here’s the thing, The View is not dying the same way late night is or like many on social media claim.
As a NewsBusters study showed, in 2025, The View only has two conservatives express their political opinions in their presents, contrasted with 128 liberals.
By going on the show, Vance is doing what NewsBusters has reported many conservatives have been trying – unsuccessfully – to do for years. It’s an opportunity for a strong conservative to have the opportunity to push back in a way that they’re not used to and have actively protected themselves from.
Fondacaro went on to be frightened that people (who aren’t getting paid to hate-watch it) actually watch the show:
I’ve seen many a commenter suggest that since none of their friends watch The View, they must not have a large audience. I’ve even been accused of being the one keeping the show on the air because of my viral video posts on X.
But here’s the rub. America is a country of over 340 million people. There are fandoms for bands, shows, movies, streamers, Instagram personalities, YouTubers, etc., that number into the hundreds of thousands or even millions that you’ve never heard of and give the content creator a comfortable or even extravagant lifestyle. Just take Critical Role, for example (if you’re Googling them, thanks for proving my point).
According to TV Insider, “The View continues to rank number one in households and total viewers among daytime talk shows (with 2.638 million viewers on average, and a 1.79 rating in the key audience demographic), above NBC’s Today Third Hour (2.081 million and 1.36 rating), Today with Jenna & Sheinelle (1.445 million and a .94 rating), and NBC News Daily (with 1.430 million and a .95 rating).”
That 2.6 million blows even their cable news competition out of the water (including in the coveted 25-54 demographic). That means they’re not going anywhere.
Not that this inconvenient fact is standing in the way of Fondacaro and his fellow MRCers trying to change that. Speaking of which, the MRC’s nepo-baby chief defended Trump and Vance making such “hostile media” appearances:
In a Friday episode of The Derek Hunter Show, Media Research Center President David Bozell joined host Derek Hunter to break down the strategy behind the administration’s elitist media blitz. While many conservative allies think the president would be better served sticking to friendly outlets, Bozell offers an interesting counter-perspective. According to Bozell, there’s a specific, generational reason Trump actually enjoys the hostile territory, and why it forces him to bring his absolute “A-game.”
But the media tour doesn’t stop there. The duo also previewed Vice President JD Vance’s upcoming appearance on The View. With the show currently facing intense scrutiny and an FCC complaint uncovered by the MRC regarding equal time violations, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Will the co-hosts play nice, or will they pull out the long knives?
The real question: Will Vance play nice, or will he pull out the long knives? Bozell presumably didn’t want to get into that.
