WorldNetDaily’s meltdowns over New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani continued in a July 2 article by Bob Unruh:
Zohran Mamdani was found to be promoting what essentially is communism during his first speech as New York City’s mayor.
There, he said, “We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”
Now he’s expanded on that “warmth,” telling city resident they need to keep their thermostats as high as 78 degrees during an ongoing heat wave in the city.
“New York: it’s hot out there, and the power grid is working overtime to keep us cool. Set your AC to 78 degrees, turn off lights/electronics you’re not using, and unplug what you can. Our City is doing its part too: maintaining the 78 degrees rule in our buildings, dimming/turning off our lights during peak electricity demand, asking private partners to do the same, and powering down non-essential equipment. A stable grid means the AC stays on, and lives are saved. Let’s ease demand — and get through the heat — together,” he said on social media.
Unruh didn’t explain how, exactly, recommending that residents set thermostats at a still-comfortable temperature is “communism.” And Unruh misleadingly portrayed Mamdani’s request as a “demand” even though that word appears nowhere in the social media post he quotes.
Unruh served up a right-wing gotcha the next day:
It seems that Democrat socialist Zohran Mamdani, an extremist elected the mayor of New York City, doesn’t have quite the influence that he thinks he might.
Even in his own city.
After insisting that, because of a current heat wave with ambient temperatures expected to reach into the triple digits, residents all set their thermostats at 78 degrees in order to sweat and save energy, he can’t even get his city hall to comply.
A report at the New York Post revealed, “Temperatures inside City Hall plunged as low as 54 degrees Thursday during the ongoing heat wave — despite Mayor Zohran Mamdani urging New Yorkers to set their air conditioners to a balmy 78, The Post found.”
[…]“The air drafting from the AC unit in the press radio room — where reporters frequently complain about frigid temps — tested at 54 degrees,” the report said.
Biut as the comments on one article about this notes, air straight from an AC vent is typically around 20 degrees colder than room temperature so that the entire room reaches the same temperature — which means that the Post’s temperature check at the vent is highly dishonest (not to mention the fact that the Post is a right-wing newspapert). Unruh didn’t see fit to add this fact to his article, of course — he was too busy quoting his fellow right-wingers trashing Mamdani over this.
